At this inspection dated July 15, 2020 there were 4 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to take corrective actions to bring facility into compliance. The contravention noted in this report were reviewed with the manager during today's inspection. This inspection report was completed off site (0.5 hr) and emailed along with the Risk Assessment to the facility the same day.
LO observed and discussed the following with Manager on-site:
- Cleaning and Disinfecting Solutions: to have extra spray bottles within the facility to avoid any cross-contamination ( between washroom, main play area and kitchen) and for safer cleaning/disinfecting process. Please refer to provided resource from BC Ministry of Health, re: cleaning and disinfectants for public settings. To properly measure and mix the solutions, i.e. 10 ml bleach to 990 ml water. These cleaning spray bottles should be labelled and kept out of reach of children at all times. When using store bought cleaning products, please follow the manufacturer's instructions
-Sunscreen: safe and hygienic sunscreen application must be practiced with children to avoid any cross contamination and to prevent the spread of germs, e.g. to wear gloves or wash hands in between applications.
-Continue to monitor and maintain proper sanitization for all high-touch surfaces, toys and equipment including any soft and porous materials used in the facility; such items still need to be properly cleaned and disinfected by laundering in a washing machine with hot water and dry in a clothes dryer on a hot cycle if children are using them.
- Log book: discussion was had to regularly use their logbook to document any minor incidents, illness and unexpected events involving children not requiring medical attention and that are not reportable incidents described in Schedule H.
- First Aid Kit: to remove all expired items with DIN #; a further discussion was had about requiring parent’s permission before using any items with DIN # on children. Mild soap and water can be used to clean any minor cut and/or scrape.
- Emergency Contact Information: to have most current emergency contact information available while children are in care.
-Sleeping Areas: to always keep and maintain the sleeping area/arrangements in a clean and sanitary manner, i.e. blanket and sheets for children should not be touching each other and must be laundered regularly ( at least once a week, or more often if soiled or visibly dirty).
- Cloth towels: during Covid-19, children should be provided with paper towels or single use cloth hand towels to dry their hands after hand washing.
- Outdoor Area: fence and stairs- to closely monitor for signs of wear and tear; to maintain and address wood rot, rusty nails, peeling paints, as required.
