Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Dirt and/or debris was observed on the outdoor play equipment i.e slides and toys.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the equipment and toys used for outdoor play are clean and in good repair. Covering them with tarp after each use or washing them every weekend was discussed.

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: Licensee could not demonstrate annual review of the emergency evacuation drill.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the record is kept to show that the emergency evacuation drill is practiced with children in care.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Out of 7 files reviewed, one of the child's files had medical practitioner name and phone number missing.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the name of the medical practitioner and phone number are obtained for the child before the start date.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated November 21, 2022 there were 5 children in the care. Licensing met with the licensee and her husband.. At this inspection above noted contraventions were identified.
The following was discussed or education provided:
Log book to be maintained on a regular basis to record any non-reportable incidents.
Making sure that there are enough supplies in the Emergency supplies kit to last for at least 72 hours.
