Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed the following in the ITC2 classroom:
- Bag with staff's personal belongings which included cosmetics and medication was in an area that is accessible to children.
- Yellow tape used to secure a foam pipe wrap to the floor was loose making it accessible to children. Staff corrected these two observations during inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please make sure that any loose taping and staff personal bags are kept out of reach of children at all times.

Comments

At the inspection dated November 10, 2023, there was a secondary licensing officer present for training purposes. At this inspection there were one hundred and forty one children, thirty five staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by November 24, 2023 stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed to ensure year-round compliance. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The inspection report was written on-site and details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the follow up to routine inspection report and risk assessment is provided to the manager at this inspection.
