Introduction

An announced routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance with a focus on health and hygiene practices during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11190 - CCLR s.16(4)(b) - A licensee must ensure that all indoor and outdoor play materials and equipment accessible to children are (b) safely constructed, free from hazards and in good repair.
Observation: Licensing observed 2 couches with cracked leather making the surface ineffective to cleaning and sanitizing efforts.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that materials and equipment accessible to children are in good repair.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated July-14-20, there were no children in care. The Manager was present for the inspection.
A COVID-19 Risk Screening was conducted before the inspection.
At the inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.
Please provide Licensing with a written response, by the date noted below, stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.
This report was written off site. The contraventions identified in the report were reviewed with the Manager before Licensing's departure.
A copy of the report and the corresponding Risk Assessment was emailed to the Manager.

The following items were discussed:
-Planned emergency response during COVID-19.
-Communicable disease prevention practices.
-Health/hygiene/sanitizing practices during COVID-19. Review of cleaning and sanitizing as multiple steps.
-Intent of a logbook and the importance of consistent log entries.
-Use of reusable hand towels to be single use during COVID-19.

-Resource Package for Childcare Facilities: COVID-19 Prevention.
-Child care and day camps: Protocol for returning to operation.
