Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed in the facility:

-paint chips on the walls and the tables and shelves

The following was observed outside the facility:

-paint was peeling from the play equipment
-some of the wood in the play area was damaged and could cause a splintering hazard
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection rust was noted on the outdoor fencing in the play area. This could cause a health hazard. The staff will provide active supervision when the children are playing in the outdoor play area.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health and safety.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: During the inspection the attendance record was reviewed. Three departure times were not recorded for the months of December and January. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-B9KRVY
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure attendance records are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated Jan 9, 2020 there were 4 children and 1 staff and 1 Manager and an administrative director present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please send a written response identifying how you have addressed these contravention to licensing by January 23, 2020. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Active Supervision
. Adding more items to the first aid kit
· Products such as diaper cream may have a drug identification number (DIN) or a natural product number (NPN) a medical authorization form is required to administer these products.

The following resources were provided:
· Reportable Incident Bulletin
· Reportable incident forms

The following resources will be sent to the Manager:

· 3 step manual dishwashing information
· Item list for first aid kit

The outdoor play area has been changed since the last inspection. The outdoor play area will need to be measured at a later date to ensure there is sufficient space for the children in care. This report was reviewed with the Manager prior to signing.
