Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).
Risk screening was conducted prior to the inspection.
All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Durining inspection, Licensing observed the following:
- Dangling cords in the Group Child Care (30 months to school age) program which pose a hazard for strangulation.
- Paint chipping on the walls in all program rooms - this is more of a concern inthe Group Child Care (under 36 month) program due to young children picking it off and putting in their mouth.
- Diaper change pad in GCC(30-sa) program has rips which causes concern for cross contamination.
- Storage of sleep mats and bedding in the GCC(30-sa) bathroom - also a concern for cross contamination of bodily fluids.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a safe and healthy environment at all times and provide a corrective action plan to Licensing by the date below.

Summary of Inspection

At today’s inspection there were 7 children on site between the 3 programs and 3 staff present.

Licensing reviewed the facility’s COVID-19 prevention strategies and noted the following:
- Health and safety system in place in response to Pandemic
- Hygiene practices are in line with Provincial Health Officer guidelines
- Physical distancing is encouraged where appropriate

At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contravention/s
Licensing will review the corrective action plan
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed and a copy was provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided through discussion:
- Relocation of the sleep mats and sealing of the bedding to prevent cross contamination
- Having staff sign in children to limit parent access and cross contamination
- Active Play promotion by spending as much time outdoors as possible
- Promoting good hygiene practices
