Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Emergency Supplies are insufficient to implement the emergency plan. There is not enough food and water to mitigate and recover from the emergency. Some of the comfort kits provided by the families did not have food in them.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that there is enough food and water to mitigate and recover from an emergency for at least 72 hours.

MEDICATION: 16020 - CCLR s.53(1)(b) - If a licensee has agreed with a parent to give a child any medication prescribed by a medical practitioner or provided by the parent, the licensee and his or her employees must ensure that the medication is (b) readily accessible to employees.
Observation: Medication was not readily accessible to employees as it had expired in January
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a system is developed to check the medication provided by the parent for its expiry date.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: No care plan available for a child requiring extra support.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a care plan is available and is developed in consultation with the parent and includes the course of action recommended by a health care professional.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated October 3, 2022 there were 20 children and 3 staff present. Both the portables were inspected. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.
The following was discussed or education provided:
Must have a first aid kit that are readily accessible to employees both at the premise and off the premise. First Aid kit should be separate from a supplies storage box.
Emergency supplies kit either labelled or stored at a different place so that children do not throw garbage in it.
Care Plans developed in consultation with the parent and are accessible to the staff.
