Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.

As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR ##RSUN-ADJNXU have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: 1) It was observed that soup was left on the hot plate. The licensee stated that the soup had been out for more than two hours.
2) It was observed that children washed their hands in the kitchen sink after using the bathroom.
Corrective Action(s): 1) Please ensure that food is stored in the fridge. Licensing recommends that the licensee take a Food Safe course.
2) Please ensure that children wash their hands in the bathroom sink after using the bathroom to reduce chance of contamination.
Date to be Corrected: September 1, 2017.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11110 - CCLR s.15(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (b) is clean and comfortable.
Observation: It was observed that the mats and bedding were touching each other in the nap room. This could cause cross-contamination in the event of an outbreak.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that there is space enough between the mats and bedding to prevent cross-contamination.
Date to be Corrected: September 1, 2017.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: The licensee stated that she does not have stored food to use in the event of an emergency.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that you have enough stored food and water to respond to an emergency.
