Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standard of Practice (DOLSOP). All care categories were assessed for compliance.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Licensing reviewed the emergency kits, there were 6 out 8 kits for the children and some of the food was expired.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee said they will ask parents for the kits and ensure that the food is replenished.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 6 children's files and observed the following:
- 1 child did not have their date of birth on file
- 3 children did not have their medical insurance plan number.
Corrective Action(s): The licensee said she will ask the parents for the information and update the files.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Licensing reviewed 6 children's files and observed the following:
- 3 children were missing the name and telephone number of a medical practitioner
- 2 children did not have an emergency contact listed other than their parents
Corrective Action(s): The licensee said they will ask the parents for information and ensure the children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19190 - CCLR s.57(3)(a) - A licensee must have in writing from a parent, and maintain at the community care facility, consent (a) to call a medical practitioner or ambulance in case of accident or illness if the parent cannot immediately be reached.
Observation: Licensing reviewd 6 children's files; 1 child did not have consent to call medical services in case of an emergency if parents cannot be reached.
Corrective Action(s): The staff said they will speak with the parents and get them to fill the form out.

At the inspection dated March 25, 2024, there were 7 children in care with 2 staff.
At the inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.
Please provide Licensing with a written response, by the date noted below, stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed in order to ensure year round compliance.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. A copy of the report and the corresponding Risk Assessment was emailed to the Manager.
