Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Eyewear used for clients that come into to direct contact with eye area - low or intermediate level disinfectant used (and has expired). High level disinfection required.
Corrective Action(s): Use high level disinfectant to disinfect client eyewear between uses. Consult the manufacturer for suitable high level disinfectant.

Comments

Services: Nails (pedicure, foot bath); Esthetics (facials, microneedling, brow/eyelash tinting, brow lift, waxing, make up); Laser (hair removal, skin IPL); Non-registered massage; Steam room.
No permanent make up or microblading, no artificial nails, no manicures, no eyelash extensions. *** Notify Fraser Health if you are adding any services.
Note: You are not permitted to provide any services that are restricted under the Health Professions Act. Discussed with operator.
Infection control plan requires updating. *** Update your infection control plan and submit to Fraser Health for review.
Nails:
- Critical items - no pedicure or credo blades used.
- Semi critical items (cuticle nippers, nail clippers, cuticle pushers, metal foot files/metal callus rasp,etc.) - use high level disinfectant. This is CS20. ***Use full strength, as per label.
- Foot bath - disposable plastic liner used and discarded after each client. Disinfect foot bath after liner is discarded. Show procedures in your updated infection control plan.
- Single Use items - absorbent files, items that cannot be cleaned and disinfected after each use.
Esthetics:
- Critical items - needles for microneedling are pre-packaged, sterile, and have expiry dates (not past expiry). Microneedles disposed of into a sharps container. Lancets not used as per operator.
- Semi-critical items - tweezers and metal loop to be disinfected with high level disinfectant. No removal of ingrown hairs.
- Non-critical items - facial equipment for use on intact skin- low level disinfectant ok or as per manufacturer specifications.
- Single use items - waxing strips, brow lift items, mascara wand, etc. disposed of after each client. Wooden waxing applicators - discarded after one dip only.
- Eyelash / eyebrow tints are labelled "For Professional Use Only" - good.
- Numbing cream - used for microneedling. Operator advises that numbing cream does not contain more than a maximum of 5% lidocaine (or other numbing agent).
Laser:
- Operator advises this is the same laser previously in use and has a Medical Device Licence from Health Canada (not verified today).
- Rooms have black out blinds on windows. Cover all reflective surfaces.
- Signs and eyewear are required as per manufacturer's manual. Keep manual on site. Sign to be on door when laser in use.
- Only staff with certificates/training on this laser equipment are to use the laser (IPL and hair removal).
- Laser technician eyewear purchased from manufacturer with machine and specific for this machine as per operator (optical density and wavelength to match).
- Semi critical item - Client eyewear directly covers eye - low/intermediate level disinfection only - high level required. See above.
- Non-critical items - laser surfaces, laser wand, and laser technician eyewear (if it does not come close to the eye) - use low level disinfectant.
Non-registered massage/ steam room:
- Hand sink in each treatment room for use prior to non-registered massage.
- Spa sandals - Discarded after each client (absorbent) - as per operator.
- Steam room is cleaned with detergent, then dried, then RTU is used to disinfect. RTU has expired. See above.
- *** Update your infection control plan to show disposable sandals and how you clean and disinfect steam room and shower when in use.
General:
- Treatment rooms have hand washing sinks in each room. Two rooms available for inspection (others in use).
- Staff room has a clean up sink and is used for storing chemicals.
- Washrooms have showers (showers not in use at this time) and hand sinks.
- Hot/cold water, liquid soap, single use or paper towels available for hand washing at all hand sinks.
- Single use disposable gloves also available (recommend non-latex).
- Disinfectant wipes - 2 of 3 containers of cleaning/disinfecting wipes have gone past expiry dates. About 3 - 4L containers of RTU have gone past expiry dates.
***Do not use chemical disinfectants past expiry dates, read and follow label for safe and proper use of chemicals (do not dilute, contact time, re-use of chemicals, use only in well ventilated areas, etc.) Post instructions for staff.
- 70-95% isopropyl alcohol - discussed.
- Linen service for laundry.
- Linens changed between each client.
