Introduction

A scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSOP).
This inspection was conducted during the Covid-19 pandemic. Covid-19 prevention strategies were noted and discussed.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11120 - CCLR s.15(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each piece of furniture or equipment for sleeping (c) is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it.
Observation: The licensee stated a 4 year old child will nap occasionally in a play pen. Please follow the manufacturers guidelines outlined on the play pen.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure each piece of furniture for sleeping is appropriate for the size, age and development of the children intended to use it.

STAFFING: 12160 - CCLR s.20(1) - The licensee must not permit a person over the age of 12 to be ordinarily present on the premises of a community care facility while children are present, unless the person is of good character and the licensee has obtained a criminal record check for that person.
Observation: Licensing observed an individual over the age of 12 that does not have a valid criminal record check. A health and safety plan will need to be submitted to licensing immediately.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure persons over the age of 12 who are ordinarily present have obtained a criminal record check.

Comments

At the inspection dated September 30, 2020 there was 1 child and 1 adult present.
Action required by the licensee includes providing a written response by October 7, 2020.
Actions required by licensing include review the written response.
Due to Covid-19 no signatures were obtained for this report. The report was written at the CCFL office and emailed to the Manager.

As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

The following discussions were had:
- Covid-19 Infection Control Assessment completed
- Creating a pet policy should the licensee decide to have a pet
- Once attendance picks up the licensee will need to ensure play pens and mats are cleaned on a daily basis
