Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Licensing observed a broken clay pot with soil outdoors located in the play area. Due to the fact that the pot was broken, it had some sharp edges.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all equipment in the facility are in good repair

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing oberved the following:
- Outside at the play area scissors were placed in a manner that was accessible to children
- Inside there were unopened bottles of liquor stored on the floor which was accessible to children
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to their health or safety

Comments

At the inspection dated Mar. 16, 2023 there were no children present.The manager was on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log bound book, and take note of any illness and unexpected events involving children not requiring medical attention, and that are not reportable incidents as described in Schedule H and staff to initial and write the date after each documentation
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Continue active supervision procedures
