Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection. The following areas were reviewed:
· Licensing, Physical Facility, Staffing, Policies and Procedures, Care & Supervision, Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control, Medication, Nutrition and Food Services, Program, Records and Reporting.
As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year “historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection -
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Along the back fence of the outdoor play space there are branches growing over the fence that are accessible to children. These branches have thorns all down the stems.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to these branches as they may cause injury because of the sharp thorns. This appears to be an ongoing issue that will need regular maintenance.
Date to be Corrected: Monday, June 11, 2018

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11390 - DLSOP Safe Play Space (ground surfacing [b4]) - [bullet 4] The taller the equipment, the deeper the protective surfacing should be.
Observation: The outdoor play area is very large. There are different areas for all the children to play. The resilient ground covering used is pea gravel and covers the ground in most of the yard. Under the green climbers and the bottom of the slides, the pea gravel appears sparse.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the depth of the pea gravel is sufficient for the height of the equipment. The Manager stated they will rake the pea gravel to redistribute until more can be delivered.
Date to be Corrected: Please provide a plan when the pea gravel will be replenished.
