Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSOP). All areas of the facility were reviewed for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12050 - CCLR s.19(1)(b) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (b) character references in respect of the person.
Observation: 3 staff files were reviewed; a minimum of two character references were not obtained for one staff member.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure all staff files are complete.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15010 - CCLR s.14(4)(a) - A licensee, other than a licensee who provides a care program described as either Preschool (30 Months to School Age) or Group Child Care (School Age), must have in a community care facility a sturdy surface for changing diapers, located outside the food preparation area, next to (a) a covered container for soiled clothing.
Observation: LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager:
Garbage bin used to dispose child's soiled diaper/pull up had no cover.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a covered container is available in diapering area, i.e. washroom.

Comments

At this inspection dated February 29, 2024 there were 10 children, 2 staff and the Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to take corrective action to bring facility into compliance. The contravention noted in this report were reviewed with the Manager during today's inspection. This inspection report was completed off site and emailed along with the Risk Assessment to the facility.

LO observed and discussed the following with the Manager onsite:
- Napping equipment; to monitor for rips and tears of the mats
- Staff files
