Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: 10 children's files were reviewed. A care card number was unavailable for two children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a care card number is available for all children.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: 10 children's files were reviewed. Contact information for a doctor/medical clinic was not available in two files and contact information for an emergency contact was not available in three files.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files contain contact information for or a doctor/medical clinic and an emergency contact person.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: A care plan was not available for a child requiring extra support.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a care plan is available for all children requiring extra support.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated December 10, 2021 there were four children and one staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this routine inspection, a facility risk assessment tool is completed and a copy is provided. This report was reviewed with the manager and written off site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager. Total time on this report includes office time.
The following were discussed with the manager:
Updating children's files when new information is received from a parent.
Having hard copies of children's photographs in case the computer or cell phone where the photos are stop working.
Attaching a copy of the receipt to the fire extinguisher to show proof of purchase.
