Introduction

A routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standard of Practice (DOLSOP). All eight care categories were assessed for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed the following:
- There is a decorative fence which has slats coming out of place exposing nails in multiple places.
-Unsecured blind cord in the naproom.
-Cleaning chemicals in an unlocked cabinet under the sink.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Licensing measured the hot water to be 55 degrees Celsius.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49 degrees Celsius.

STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Licensing inspected 2 staff files and noted that one did not contain an immunization status declaration.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure staff files are complete.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated October 3, 2023 there were three children in care with the Licensee.
At the inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified.
Please provide Licensing with a written response, by the date noted below, stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed in order to ensure year round compliance.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed. A copy of the report and the corresponding Risk Assessment was emailed to the Manager.
The following items were discussed:
-Regular outdoor equipment maintenance.
-There is a shed in the outdoor play space that does not have a door. The lincesee says that a new door will be added as soon as possible. Currently the shed entrance is blocked by a table.
-There are several fruit bearing tree in the outdoor play space. A conversation was had with the Licensee to ensure any fruit that has fallen and rotted is cleaned up as soon as possible.
-The facility has a casual staff member who does not have a valid CRC at the moment. The Licensee produced evidence that the CRC has been applied for and said that the staff will not work at the facility until a CRC has been obtained.
