Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: Upon inspection there was one corner of the wall that had a sharp metal piece exposed posing a risk to the children in care.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the facility is in good repair while children are in attendance.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11480 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Upon inspecting the backyard:
-There were numerous uneven payment stepping stones posing a tripping hazard.Photographs were taken.
-There were a couple loose stairs leading up toward the grassy area. Photographs were taken.
-Along one side of the yard, there were many mushrooms growing that pose a hazard to the children in care.
-There was one split board in the fence that posed an entrapment hazard. Photograph was taken.
- There were 3 nails sticking out of wood where the children pass by to get to the play area outside.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: Upon review of the children's files, 1 child did not have a start date recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the children's files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: Upon review of the children's files, one child did not have a doctors name or number recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the children's files are complete.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated November 20, 2019 there were 7 children and 1 staff present. Licensee stated that there are 8 children registered in the program. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee will provide Licensing with a written response regarding corrective actions taken. Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.

Licensing discussed supervision of school aged children in the home and yard maintenance with the Licensee.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
