Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act(CCALA) and the Child Care Licensing Regulations(CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of practice (DoLSoP).

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During inspection licensing observed:
-Bins stacked up, and would fall on a child if they were to pull on the bins
-Storage of the mop and bucket accessible to children playing
-A pile of rugs in the outdoor covered area preventing free access in the shaded covered area.
-One area near the entrance where the ground surface was low providing a tripping hazard.
-Cords from the music player accessible to children in the play area.(corrected during inspection)
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11130 - CCLR s.15(3) - A licensee providing a care program to any child younger than 36 months of age must provide a separate sleeping area located away from any activity area.
Observation: The nap space had various storage preventing access for children under 36 months.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure to keep the designated nap space clear and accessible for children under 36 months.

STAFFING: 12180 - CCLR s.22(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.
Observation: The fire extinguisher was past the required serving in march of 2022.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that emergency equipment noted in the fire drill system is maintained

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 4 children, the Licensee, and 2 staff present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensee is required to submit a corrective action plan to address the contraventions.

The following was discussed
Bathroom appeared to have some patched areas. Licensee explained it was in the process of repainting, and would be completed outside of care hours.
Cleaning and sanitization practices were reviewed and discussed.
Education provided about staffing requirements for when the manager is out of the facility.
