Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): In the infant & toddler outdoor playarea Licensing observed that children had access to toys that had a visible build up of moss, moisture and dirt. Staff corrected this during inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19210 - CCLR s.58(1)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (a) the diagnoses relevant to the child's requirement for extra support, as made by health care professionals.
Observation: No care plan available for a child requiring extra support.Staff were able to verbally explain what support the child needs but there isn't a plan written down to follow.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure for each child requiring extra support, a current care plan showing the following information: (b) the courses of action recommended by health care professionals to address the needs of the child requiring extra support

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19380 - CCALA s.7(1)(b)(i) - A licensee must do all of the following: (b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote (i) the health, safety and dignity of persons in care,
Observation: Medication is not available to the child as per the instructions in their care plan.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that medication is available to the child as per the instructions in the child's care plan.

Comments

At the inspection dated October 18, 2022 there were 109 children, thirty one staff and the Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by October 20, 2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided
The following were discussed with the manager:

·Temperature for safe food storage is 0-4 degrees celsius
·Storage of adult use picnic tables
·Check for manufacturer’s weight recommendations for use of infant equipment such as the swings and rockers.
·Updating children record with current photos
Exemption process for staffing
The inspection report was written on-site and details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the routine inspection report and risk assessment is provided to the manager at this inspection.
