Introduction

An scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11080 - CCLR s.15(1)(a) - A licensee must supply equipment, furniture and supplies that are (a) of sturdy and safe construction, easy to clean and free from hazards.
Observation: Some pieces of equipment is showing some wear and tear:
-Sleeping mats are taped at corners with duct tape, making them difficult to clean and sanitize (repeat).
-Play kitchen and play fridge has some areas of exposed wood where melamine has chipped off, making the equipment difficult to clean.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure furniture and equipment is easy to clean and in good repair.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must have all of the following: (b) an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: The facility hasn't practiced their emergency drill in over a year. Records indicate that the last emergency drill was conducted in July of 2019.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that emergency drills are conducted on a yearly basis.

Comments

At the inspection dated September 16, 2020 there were 10 children and 4 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the violations noted above on or above 24, 2020.As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed and a copy was provided.

-COVID-19 prevention strategies discussed.
-Facility did not have a Worksafe BC Safety Plan on site. LO explained to staff where to find the template to create the safety plan. Once complete, please ensure the plan is posted at all facilities.
-Some discussion had about the foam flooring which can be difficult to clean and sanitize as it a porous material.

Signature not obtained as report was written offsite and sent to Licensee via email.
