Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the routine inspection the following was observed in the back yard of the facility:
- ivy vines were growing under the black rubber mat and coming out through the holes of the rubber mat causing a tripping hazard.
- other weeds were growing through the holes in the black rubber mat causing a tripping hazard.
The licensee said that they are not using the back yard as it is too sunny. The licensee said that since they only have two children they only use the front yard of the facility and going for walks.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the back yard is maintained at all times.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13060 - CCLR s.56(1)(d) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (d) written policies and procedures that are intended to guide employees in the care and supervision of children.
Observation: During the routine inspection it was noted that the Active Play and Screen Time policies were missing.
Corrective Action(s): Please create and follow an Active Play and Screen Time policy.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the routine inspection 3 children's files were reviewed and one child's file was missing an emergency contact person.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children's files are complete.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 18, 2022there were 1 child and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Information regarding Active Play and Screen Time were emailed to the licensee
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water

The following resources were provided:
· Reportable Incident Bulletin
· Reportable incident forms
