Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: During the inspection it was noted that one staff did not have a record of immunization.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all staff have a record of immunization on file.

HYGIENE AND COMMUNICABLE DISEASE: 15030 - CCLR s.46(1) - A licensee must establish a program to instruct children in, and to practise the rules of, health and hygiene.
Observation: During the inspection it was observed that only one child washed his hands with soap and water before having snack and the other 7 children used hand sanitizer to clean their hands. When asked about the hand washing routine, the manager stated that the children ordinarily wash their hands before coming to class, after coming to class from outside and before eating. Hand washing routine was not observed during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children practice hand washing often and before eating.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19120 - CCLR s.57(2)(f) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (f) any medication administered to the child, including the amount and the time at which the medication was administered.
Observation: During the inspection it was revealed that 3 children requiring extra support did not have a care plan.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure all children requiring extra support have a care plan available.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 26, 2022 there were 8 children 1 staff, 1 support worker and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Bleach bottle to be made new every day
· care plans for children requiring extra support
· Active Supervision
· Reporting of reportable incidents
