Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Metal foot file (callus rasp) is being cleaned and disinfected however this item is not fully covered by the disinfectant.
Corrective Action(s): Clean and dry the metal rasp callus remover and then fully cover with disinfectant. Provide a bigger container to do this.

Observation: Pedicure blades disposed of into a glass jar (no lid).

Comments

Routine check.
Services: Nails (manicure, pedicure, foot bath, acrylic artificial nails) and Esthetics (waxing, eyelash and brow tinting).
Nails:
- Pedicure blades are single use. Disposed of into a jar - sharps container required - see above.
- Semi critical items (cuticle nippers, nail clippers, cuticle pushers, etc.) are washed, rinsed, and immersed in high level disinfectant. Procedures to be: wash, rinse, DRY, and then soak for 20 minutes in high level disinfectant.
- Metal foot file rasp (callus removal) must be fully immersed in the high level disinfectant - see above.
- Non critical items (manicure bowl) - washing and using 70% alcohol spray to disinfect. **Since alcohol spray evaporates quickly, use a different disinfectant (such as 100ppm chlorine).
- Single use items (absorbent nail files, toe separators, buffers, callous removal pads, sanding bands, foam sandals) appear to be new and extra items area available on site.
- Foot bath - Single use (disposable) plastic liner is used for each client and discarded after use. Acrylic foot bath with impellar removed.
After liner removed, foot bath is cleaned with soap, rinsed, and disinfected with chlorine disinfectant. Chlorine concentration measured at about 500ppm - to be 1000ppm (2 tsp chlorine bleach in 500mL water) and made fresh daily. Label bottles.
- Chlorine disinfectant solution bottles are not labelled. Label all bottles containing chlorine bleach and water solution.
Esthetics:
- Waxing - Wax appears to be clean. Single use wooden spatulas and waxing strips. Person on site advises that tweezers are not used. **If using tweezers, advise how these are disinfected.
- Eyelash and eyebrow tints - are labelled for this use by Professionals Only. This service is not provided today. *Clean and disinfect the glass cup prior to next use and between uses. Update your infection control plan.
General:
- Use all chemicals safely (check directions on the bottle). ***Update your written cleaning and disinfection procedures (infection control plan) and submit to Fraser Health.
- Designated hand sink in nail services area and in waxing/esthetics room. Both have liquid soap and single use hand towels (paper towels).
- Latex gloves are available. For clients or staff with latex allergies, use non latex gloves.
- Nail area has 2 clean up sinks.
- Washroom - has liquid soap and hand dryer.
- Cleaning - good.
- Laundry on site. Using hot dry for towels.
