Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #KINE-B9DRGP have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During inspection of the facility, the following was found: 1. The washroom sink had brown stains behind the faucet and around the sink. The toilet has a brown ring in it and appears to require cleaning. 2. The fridge was inspected and has brown stains and residue under the vegetable and fruit drawers. 3. A wall in the main play area has chipped paint and exposed drywall.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the facility is clean and in good repair

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection of the washroom it was found that toilet cleaning liquid was stored above the toilet on a shelf and is in reach of some of the children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure the children do not have access to any substances that may be hazardous.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19051 - CCLR s.56.1(2)(a) - A licensee must keep (a) a copy of the written statement, referred to in section 19 of the Act, that the licensee delivers to persons who prepay part of the cost of services
Observation: During review of children's files it was found that only 1/2 of the children's files contained a written statement for persons who prepay part of the cost of services
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a copy of the written statement regarding prepayment of the cost of services is on file at the daycare for review.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19080 - CCLR s.57(2)(b) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (b) date of enrolment in the community care facility.
Observation: 3 children's files were reviewed and 2 files were missing date of enrolment
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children's files are complete

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A review of daily attendance records for the past 3 months indicated that records were incomplete for one week
Corrective Action(s): Ensure daily attendance records are complete
Date to be Corrected: Attendance for the previous week were corrected during inspection


Comments

At the inspection dated February 10, 2020 there were 5 children and 1 staff present. This facility has 8 children currently registered.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee included here. As part of this routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
