Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Licensing observed that the monthly fire drill was not recorded for the months of November and December 2022.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the monthy fire drills are practiced and recorded.

Comments

At the inspection dated Jan. 03, 2023 there were 10 children and 2 staff present. The manager was also on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contravention was identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contravention noted in this report was reviewed with the facility manager during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log bound book, and take note of any illness and unexpected events involving children not requiring medical attention, and that are not reportable incidents as described in Schedule H and staff to initial after each documentation
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Continue hand hygiene procedures
- Continue active supervision of children
- Continue daily checks of outdoor play area before children use the space
