Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12040 - CCLR s.19(1)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (a) a criminal record check for the person.
Observation: 1 staff person did not have a current criminal record check available.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that each criminal record check is current.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: The Manager stated that a fire drill was not completed in September. There is no record it was completed in August.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the fire drill is implemented at least once per month.

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: There is no evidence that an emergency drill was implemented in the last year.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that an emergency drill is implemented at least once per year.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19320 - CCLR s.59(a) - In respect of a record referred to in this Division, a licensee must (a) keep in a single place at the community care facility the records referred to in sections 56 to 58.
Observation: 1 staff did not have the record of work history in the community care facility. 1 staff did not have any employee documentation available at the time of the inspection. The Licensee stated that the information was obtained for the employee.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that all documents in section 56 to 58 are kept in a single location in the community care facility.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated October 17, 2019 there were 2 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The following education/recommendations were provided:

· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
