Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Licensing observed an electronic device placed on top of a low shelving unit with the electrical cord exposed and easily accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that electronic devices and the electrical cords are stored in a location not easily accessible to children.

Comments

At the inspection dated Dec. 09, 2021 there were 31 children and 10 staff present.The manager was on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. The contravention noted in this report was reviewed with the facility during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

A COVID-19 Risk Screening was also completed.

The following education/recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Reportable Incident procedures
- Continue to document minor incidents using the incident log book
- Continue to follow COVID-19 policy
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Hand hygiene procedures
- Food and eating procedures
- Storage of water bottles when not in use
- Off-site activities and procedures
- Continue the sick policy for staff and children
- Continue to provide daily outdoor play periods
- Fire/Emergency drill evacuation plan
