208 - Foods obtained from unapproved sources [s. 11]
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Facility was found to have the following items for sale made from an unapproved source (home based) and no labels:
-2 frozen fish
-10 samosas
-2 deserts in a take out container
-3 ziplock bags of Papitan
-9 rice wraps
-26 rice wraps (banana leaves)
-Facility was also found to have advertisement for foods for order made by unapproved sources.
-Pork rinds were being repackaged - original labels are not present.
-Back storage area also has food items for home use - also appeared to be from unapproved sources.
Corrective Action(s): All food items in a food store are assumed to be offered for sale and must be made at approved sources. Foods must either be properly labelled with the contact information of the supplier or invoices from approved sources must be kept on-site. All food items made from unapproved sources have been removed from the facility. Advertisements for sale of unapproved foods items has been removed from the store. Public Health Act Correction Order has been issued to the facility - non-compliance with the Order will result in the issuance of a violation ticket.

Observation: Rice was found stored on the floor.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure foods are stored off the floor to protect foods from potential contamination and to facilitate proper cleaning.

Observation: Shelving units were lined in newspapers.
Corrective Action(s): Removed newspaper from shelving units. All surfaces must be smooth, non-absorbent, and easily cleanable.

Comments

-Freezers ranged from -10C to -18C (freezer unit at -10C needs to be defrosted - significant build up of ice).
-Refrigeration units did not contain any cold potentially hazardous foods.
-Random selection of canned foods were found to be within their best before dates.
-Balut eggs are supplied by JB Bistro - operator to provide a copy of the invoice.
-Public Health Act Correction Order has been issued to the facility. Non-compliance with the Order will result in the issuance of a violation ticket.
