Introduction

An unscheduled inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: Certificate for ECE staff was not verified by the system maintained by the early Childhood educator registry.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that certificate is validated and is included in the staff file.

Comments

At this inspection dated September 16, 2021 there were 18 children and 2 staff present. As it was a gradual entry day Licensing left after looking at the staff and children's files and returned for rest of the inspection later in the morning. At this inspection, above noted contraventions were identified.
The contents of this inspection report was reviewed with the manager prior to the inspection report being written off-site, therefore no signature attached. A copy of the report was provided to the facility by email.
As part of the routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided by email.
