Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: A large white shelf in the main play area with a TV on it was observed and found not to be anchored to the wall posing a risk of falling if climbed or in the event of an earthquake for example. The TV was inaccessible to children with plexiglass on the shelf preventing access.
Corrective Action(s): Please address to ensure a safe environment.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): A cleaning product was observed under the sink in the washroom accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children do not have access to hazardous substances.

CARE AND/OR SUPERVISION: 14020 - CCLR s.34(2)(a) - Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that (a) children attending a community care facility are divided into groups, with each group having no more children than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: 6 children were in care today. 5 of those children were found to be under the age of 4 years old.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the ages of children in care are in compliance with that set out in Schedule E.

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated DATE there were 6 children and 1 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
