Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR # have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the routine inspection it was noted that some blackberry vines were coming down in the playground from the above fence. Some of the vines has sharp prickles and were easily accessible by children. Manager said that they will cut the vines after licensing departed.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: During the routine inspection the following were observed regarding the emergency supplies:
- on the supplies list the apple sauce in the emergency kit expired February 04, 2023.
- on top of the two bins containing the emergency supplies there was a large hose spreading across both bins, a rubber toy cow and two plastic buckets preventing easy access to the kits.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the emergency supplies are easily accessible to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.

Comments

At the inspection dated April 5, 2023 there were 23 children, 4 staff and the licensee present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Promoting Active Play in the program
· Temporary Placements
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water
· Valid CRC for all staff. Expiry date confirmed with the licensee.
· A conversation was had with the licensee about having a separate book for minor incidents.
· During the routine inspection it was observed that the upper play area was under renovations, therefore it was not in use. The area was closed off by a gate. Licensee will email photos when the upper play area is finished.
