Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), and the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR), and the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: -Walls in multiple classrooms had small areas of damage exposing dryall to children while playing.
-The outdoor play area were observed to have two gates with broken latched, one fence with a broken spindle, one broken fence cap with an exposed screw, and one fence panel was broken from the structure, exposing a screw.
-Nap area window coverings to block light in two under three nap rooms, were torn in multiple spots.
Corrective Action(s): Please establish systems to ensure that the community facility and the furniture equipment and fixtures within are clean and in good repair.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): -Three classrooms had cleaning spray stored on counter near the edge where children could reach.
-Two classrooms had bags stored in a cupboard accessible to children.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health and safety of children.

Comments

Summary of Inspection:
During today’s inspection, there were 82 children, 22 staff, 2 kitchen staff and the facility manger present.
At this inspection the above contraventions were identified. Written response is required.
The following was discussed:

Reviewed practice for cleaning and sanitizing the change tables after each use with one use towel.
The sink in classroom 7 was out of order. The manager said this happened yesterday, and they will be having it repaired on the weekend.
Documenting details of minor incidents in the minor incident log book, and also that parents have been informed of the incidents.
Each classroom had sufficient toys to meet minimum programming requirements, however the options were limited for a full classroom of children during free play.
