Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: Licensing observed the following, in the outdoor play area that are accessible to children;
- Two large wood panels resting against the wall with nails sticking out of them.
- Couple of adult rakes and an adult shovel.
- A container with a bag of snow salt.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Upon a review of the fire and emergency drills for the year 2022 and 2023, Licensing observed that the fire drills for November and December 2023 were implemented however, not recorded.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that records respecting fire and emergency drills are maintained.

Summary of Inspection
At the routine inspection conducted today August 31, 2023, there were four children and the Licensee/Manager present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee is required to correct all identified non-compliances by the dates indicated above in the violations section. A written response is to be provided to Licensing on the date specified for Licensing to review that appropriate corrective action has been taken to address all identified non-compliances. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed.

The contents of the inspection report were reviewed with the Manager at the inspection. This report was written off site. A copy of this report and the risk assessment were emailed to the facility.
