Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: A cabinet in the classroom was identified as not secured to the wall posing a potential hazard to children playing in the area. Additionally a wagon near the outdoor play area door had significant water and debris in it also posing a health hazard to children passing through the area. LO reviewed both of these items with the manager at the time of the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all time.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Fire drill records were reviewed and a drill was missed during the month of March. LO reviewed this requirement with the manager during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure employees practice implementing and record monthly fire drills.

Comments

On the inspection date of April 13, 2022 there were 16 children and 5 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee include a corrective action plan required to be submitted and actions required the LO include to review and monitor the corrective action plan. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. This inspection report was completed off site and emailed to the facility the same day.
