Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSOP). Evidence for this report was based on the Licensing Officer’s observations, review of the facility records and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed: Licensing; Physical Facility; Staffing; Polices & Procedures; Care & Supervision; Hygiene and Communicable Disease Control; Medication; Nutrition and Food Services; Program; Records and Reporting.
As part of the Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection and a 3 year historical” review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Inspection report was reviewed with manager before report was signed and printed.

Previous Inspection - Not Applicable
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: During inspection Licensing reviewed the fire/ emergency drill records and noted that a full evacuation drill has not been practiced in a 12 month period.

Manager stated staff and children will practice the full evacuation drill by the first week in June.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure full evacuation drill is practiced once a year.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19100 - CCLR s.57(2)(d) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (d) name and telephone number of a parent, medical practitioner and emergency contact.
Observation: During inspection Licensing randomly reviewed 10 children's records and noted that two children are missing doctor/ medical clinic information.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure missing doctor/ medical clinic information is on file for the two children noted above.

Comments

During inspection Licensing observed children arrive at their classrooms; they then ate snack, had silent reading and then put their sunscreen on before going outside for free play.

During inspection Licensing observed staff: talking to children about their day; creating a story with children adding random verbs/ nouns etc; giving warnings before transitions and assisting with problem solving when necessary etc.

During inspection Licensing had a quick view of a room that the facility might be moving in to during the summer.
