Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DoLSoP). All care categories were inspection for compliance.

Contraventions

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Licensing observed in an activity room a ceiling light with no cover, exposing two light bulbs
In the outdoor environment;
- Disassembled garden house with loose metal parts
- Inside gazebo contained work tools, broken chair and other items.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the system maintained by the early childhood educator registry. (Educator or assistant certificate validation)
Observation: Licensing reviewed 3 staff files and 2 files were missing evidence of a licence validation. Education was provided and the manager completed the validation for 1 staff file during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure educators certificates are verified by a system maintained by the early childhood educator registry.

Comments

At today’s inspection there were 7 children and the manager present.
At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. The Licensee will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to licensing by Feb 22/23 indicating how you have addressed the above noted contraventions. Licensing will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
The contents of the inspection report were reviewed with the manager and written on-site. A copy of this report will be emailed to the manager.
