Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection Licensing observed the following was accessible to children:
·In the play area an electric outlet cover was uncovered and an electric wire was plugged into the outlet. Manager corrected this during inspection.
·Unopened container of hand soap and two toilet plungers were stored in the cupboard underneath the bathroom sink. After the inspection Manager sent an email to Licensing with a picture correcting this by placing a child proof lock on this cupboard.

Corrective Action(s): Ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.

Comments

At the inspection dated January 12, 2022 there were five children and two staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by January 14, 2022. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the Manager:

· Updating policies
· Storage of outdoor furniture to prevent children from climbing on it.
The following resources was provided and discussed:
· Child Care Facilities Reponses to COVID-19 Cases
The inspection report was written off-site – details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the inspection report was provided via email to the manager on January 12, 2022. Total time includes writing report in office.
