Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12090 - CCLR s.19(1)(f) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (f) evidence that the person has complied with the Province's immunization and tuberculosis control programs.
Observation: Upon review of 4 staff files Licensing observed that there was no record of immunization status for 2 staff.
Corrective Action(s): Please obtain a record of immunization status prior to employment.

STAFFING: 12430 - CCLR s.56(1)(b) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (b) for each employee, the records required under section 19 (1) [character and skill requirements].
Observation: Upon review of 4 staff files Licensing observed that the criminal record check clearance letter for one staff was referenced to a different organization.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that criminal record check clearance letters are shared with the Little Meadows Academy.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13050 - CCLR s.56(1)(c) - A licensee must keep current records of each of the following: (c) a record respecting compliance with section 22 (2) (b) and (c) [emergency training and equipment].
Observation: Upon review of facility records Licensing observed that there was no record of the earthquake drill for any program in 2018. The manager confirmed that staff conducted the drill.
Corrective Action(s): Please keep a record when staff complete the yearly earthquake drill.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated June 18, 2019 there were 10 children and 3 staff present in the 30 months to school age program and 12 children and 2 staff in the preschool program. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified and Licensing provided dates for correction. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Promoting Active Play in the program
Active Supervision
Lead in the Water
Information that can be included in the school pick up and drop off policy
Information that can be included in the vehicle transportation policy
Ways to keep record of parent notification when a parent was notified of their child's minor incident or injury while in care
Maintenance of the wooden playground structure
