Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): Room sprays were accessible on the counter within the washroom. Licensee moved the sprays to an area that was not accessible to the children at the time of inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure hazardous objects and substances are not accessible to the children in care.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: Bathroom hot water was measured at 60 Degrees Celsius at the time of inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure accessible water temperature is 49 Degrees Celsius or less.

Comments

At the inspection dated May 17, 2023, there were 4 children and 1 staff present.
At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified . Please provide a written response to indicate how you will address the contraventions noted above on or before May 24, 2023
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool was completed.

The following was discussed:
-Some children are new to the Province, discussed regularly checking in with the parents to see if they have updates in regard to MSP, Dr & Emergency Contact. Walk-in clinic that they regularly attend would be accepted should the child not have a Dr.
-Discussed Minor Incident log book
-Discussed Emergency Drill, LO recommend that the location be somewhere off the property where they can seek shelter.
-Recommended that fridge have a thermometer in order to ensure the temperature is 4 Degrees Celsius or below.
-Discussed mixing of sanitizer, please note that bleach and water ratio is 1:100. Handout provided.
-Spoke with Licensee about adding receipt or some type of record to the fire extinguisher to show when it is due to be serviced.
