Introduction

An unscheduled follow-up inspection to Routine Inspection # SMIA-BYSVJY was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP)

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12180 - CCLR s.22(2)(a) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (a) is trained in the implementation of the fire drill system and emergency plan described in subsection (1), including the use of any equipment noted in the fire drill system and emergency plan.
Observation: During inspection, Licensing observed that fire extinguisher was due for service in August 2021
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure fire extinguisher is serviced annually

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19070 - CCLR s.57(2)(a) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (a) name, sex, date of birth, medical insurance plan number and immunization status.
Observation: Three children files were reviewed and a child recently enrolled in the program was missing medical insurance number in its file. Manager stated she has already asked the family to provide this information.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children files are complete.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation: Three children files were reviewed and a child recently enrolled in the program was missing a photo.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure children files are complete.

Comments

During inspection dated October 6, 2021 there was one child and one staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility.
The following were discussed with the manager:
· Storage of dog leash when not in use to prevent accessibility to children
· Storage of emergency medicine to prevent accessibility to children
The follow up inspection report was written off-site– details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the follow up inspection report sent to manager via email on October 6, 2021. Total time includes writing report in office.
