Introduction

A routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act, Child Care Licensing Regulationand the Director of Licensing Standards of Practice. In response to the current COVID 19 pandemic this inspection focused on the physical facility, equipment and furnishings, hygiene and communicable disease control.

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Contraventions observed on FIR #SMOY-BD9PMK have been corrected.
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The Licensing Officer saw a pair of scissors hanging by one handle and within the reach of the children on a door frame located in the outdoor play area. There it the potential for a child to be seriously injured due to the manner in which the item was stored and within reach of the children.

Corrective Action(s): In discussion with the Licensee during the inspection the Licensee removed the scissors and placed them inside the door. Ensure all hazardous items are stored out of reach of children at all times.

Comments

At the inspection dated May 8, 2020 there were 2 children and 1 staff present. As part of this routine inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The above noted contravention was identified during today's inspection and it was addressed by the Licensee during the inspection.

Licensing reviewed with the Licensee their cleaning and sanitizing procedures and the implementation of the facility's sick policy.

Licensing observed a portable heater located within the eating area of the daycare. In discussion with the Licensee the heater is not being used at this time and should be removed from the area. The use of portable heaters in child care facilities are not recommended as children may be injured or potentially burned.

This report was reviewed with the Licensee at the time of the inspection. This report and the Facility Risk Assessment Tool were completed off site (time spent .25hrs) and a copy of these documents were sent to the Manager.
