Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During the inspection the climber was observed in the play area. This was placed close to the window and there was no resilient surfacing on one side of the climber. This is a repeat contravention from inspection #CLAN-CBEV5N.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the climber is not placed next to the window, ensure a 6 foot fall radius is maintained at all times and resilient surfacing is placed all around the climber within a 6 foot radius.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation: During the inspection the following was observed:
-The washroom cupboard door was unlocked and contained hairspray and laundry detergent (this was corrected during the inspection)
-Nail polish remover was observed under the desk. (this was corrected during the inspection)
-A bottle of Tums. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CBEV5N
-A cupboard in the kitchen was unlocked. This contained vitamins. (this was corrected during the inspection)
-In the naproom several personal care items such as lotions and perfume and were observed within easy reach of the children (this was corrected during the inspection). This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CBEV5N
-A phone cord for a charger was observed. This is a repeat contravention from inspection # CLAN-CBEV5N
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure the children do not have access to any objects or substances that may be hazardous to the health and safety of children in care

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: The emergency supplies were observed. More food and water is required for the emergency supplies.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure you have sufficient emergency supplies to ensure to be prepared in the event of an emergency.

Comments

At the inspection dated February 2, 2023 there were 5 children, 1 staff, and the Licensee was present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Please correct the above noted contraventions by February 16, 2023 unless otherwise specified in the report. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy was sent to the Licensee.

The following was discussed:
-The reportable incident reporting procedure.
-The current cleaning protocols that are in place
-Preventing lead in the water
-Using high chairs with infants and tables and chairs with older children when eating.
-The system that is in place for keeping the facility, equipment and furniture in good repair.

The inspection findings were reviewed with the Licensee at the inspection. A copy of these documents were sent to the Licensee. If you have any questions regarding this report please contact me.
