Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All care categories were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11200 - CCLR s.17 - A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection licensing observed:
- In the bathroom air freshener was stored on top of toilet tank and was within children reach. Manager corrected this during inspection and placed it out of children's reach.
- Hallway storage closet door was unlocked . There was a childproof lock on the closet door, but it was not secured fully. Manager corrected this during inspection by fully securing the child proof lock.
Corrective Action(s): Manager said usually the freshener is kept out of children's reach and the closet door is kept locked and that she will make sure that these items are stored and secured properly.

At the inspection dated May 7, 2024 there were seven children and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by May 10, 2024 stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed to ensure year-round compliance. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following were discussed with the Manager:
Valid CRC are available, expiry dates were reviewed
Children with care plan for allergies must include what symptoms to expect. Care plans must be developed in consultation with the parents and any health care professional that the parent requests
The inspection report was written on-site and details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the follow up to routine inspection report and risk assessment is emailed to the manager.
