Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: Electrical cords in the play room were accessible to children. The bedding is stored on top of the mats.The bedding is washed once a week and is left on the mats, stacked on top of each other. Personal items are stored in the unlocked drawer and on the bathroom counter.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the safe environment is provided to children at all times i.e electrical cords are moved away so that children cannot reach them, bedding used for children is stored separately and the personal items are stored in the locked drawer or where they are not accessible to children.

STAFFING: 12190 - CCLR s.22(2)(b) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (b) practices implementing the fire drill system at least once each month.
Observation: Fire drills found to be recorded with exception of last two months i.e September and October.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure a system is developed to capture monthly documentation and implementation of fire drills.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES: 13020 - CCLR s.22(1)(b) - A licensee must: (b) have an emergency plan that sets out procedures to prepare for, mitigate, respond to and recover from any emergency.
Observation: Record of Fire Extinguisher's next service date was not available
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that service card showing the next service date is available for licensing to review.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation: Attendance record found to be recorded with arrival and departure with exception of last two days of the week.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that attendance record is maintained on a daily basis with time of arrival and departure.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19160 - CCLR s.57(2)(i) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (i) a photograph or digital image of the child, and other information that can be used to readily identify the child in an emergency.
Observation: It was noted that one of four children's files reviewed did not contain a photo or digital image.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure children's registration information is complete with all the required documentation including the photograph.

Summary of Inspection:
At the inspection dated November 1st, 2022 there were 5 children in the care. Licensing met with the licensee. At this inspection above noted contraventions were identified.

The following was discussed or education provided:
Log book to be maintained on a regular basis to record any non-reportable incidents.
Having photos included with the Emergency Permission cards.
Child Development and seeking resources with Fraser Valley Child Development Center.
