Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP).

Contraventions
Previous Inspection - Not Applicable
Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation: During inspection Licensing noted that some tape, which is being used to keep a carpet from curling, has curled & is a tripping hazard.

Manager stated they will replace the tape to ensure the tripping hazard is removed.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure tape on carpet is replaced to prevent a tripping hazard.

STAFFING: 12140 - CCLR s.19(4)(a) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as (a) an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry,
Observation: During inspection Licensing reviewed staff files and noted that there is no proof on file that one staff person's renewed ECE Certificate has been verified.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure staff person's renewed ECE Certificate has been verified.

Comments

Summary of Inspection
At the inspection dated May 6, 2019 there were 23 children and 3 staff present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified.
Licensee to submit written documentation to Licensing once contraventions have been addressed.
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.
During inspection Licensing observed children: engaged in Montessori activities; have snack; engage in Montessori activities; go outside to the park for outdoor play.
During inspection Licensing observed staff interacting with children while they were engaged in activities as well as give warnings before times of transitions.
