Introduction

An unscheduled/scheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing of Practice (DLSP). All categories of care were inspected for compliance.

Current Inspection - Items reviewed comply with the Act, regulations & standards of practice except for those noted on supplementary pages.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11020 - CCLR s.13(2) - A licensee must ensure that the community care facility and the furniture, equipment and fixtures within it are clean and in good repair while children are in attendance.
Observation: During the routine inspection the following was observed:
- The carpets in the facility are heavily stained and in need of cleaning. The manager said that the carpets have been cleaned in October. In one area the carpet was covered with duct tape. The carpet is a repeat contravention from 2022 inspection.
- The trim around the cupboard in the Ocean and Dinosaur room was curling
- The floor in the Ocean and Dinosaur room was dirty around the edge where the trim was curling
- Two planks on the climbing structure showed visible signs of wear and tear and the screws in the planks were sticking out.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that the facility is clean and in good repair. A compliance plan is required by the date mentioned below.

Comments

At the inspection dated August 16, 2023 there were 47 children, 9 staff and the manager present. At this inspection the above noted contravention was identified. Actions required by the licensee and actions required the LO included here. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations were provided:
· Education was provided regarding documentation for the drivers in the facility
· Temporary Placements and Exemptions
· Active Supervision
· Lead in the Water – flushing the pipes to remove any impurities before using the drinking water
