Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance

Observed Violations
STAFFING: 12060 - CCLR s.19(1)(c) - A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility unless the licensee or, in the case of a person who is not the manager, the manager has first met with the person and obtained all of the following: (c) a record of the person's work history.
Observation: A record of the person's work history was not obtained for one employee.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that a record of the person's work history is on file.

RECORDS AND REPORTING: 19090 - CCLR s.57(2)(c) - A licensee must keep, for each child, a record showing the following information: (c) daily attendance record, indicating for each day whether the child is absent or, if the child is present, the time of arrival and departure.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During the inspection, Licensing observed that 14 children's time of arrival were not documented on the attendance record.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure that the time of arrival for each child is documented on the daily attendance record.

Comments

At the inspection dated Nov. 02, 2022 there were 34 children and 6 staff present. The manager was on-site and assisted with the inspection. At this inspection, the above noted contraventions were identified. Actions required by the licensee includes a written response. The contraventions noted in this report were reviewed with the manager during the inspection.

As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

The following education/recommendations/discussions were provided:
- Continue to clean and sanitize the facility including toys and equipment
- Fire and Emergency Drill process
- Remove all items with a DIN # in the first aid kit, as parent’s permission is required before using these items on children. Mild soap and water can be used to clean any minor cuts or scrapes.
