209 - Food not protected from contamination [s. 12(a)]
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): 1. Prepackaged ready to eat food products (e.g. macaroni salad, meat achar, kebab) were stored on trays that were adjacent to trays of raw meat. This is a repeat violation.
2. Single-use takeout containers were stored upside down on top of the hot-holding unit facing the customer service area and were not located behind a plexi-glass barrier or inside a cabinet.
Corrective Action(s): 1. Person on charge on shift re-located the ready to eat food products so that they are stored in a separate area of the cooler with a physical partition to separate them from the raw meat products. Ensure the ready to eat food products are stored on a designated side of the display cooler with the partition to separate them from the raw meat products.
2. Person in charge re-located the single-use takeout containers inside a cabinet.

308 - Equipment/utensils/food contact surfaces are not in good working order [s. 16(b)]
Observation: Previously wall-mounted dispenser at the handsink near the hot-holding unit was no longer affixed to the wall and requires repair. Note: Liquid soap was available in a smaller portable dispenser at this handsink.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure a wall-mounted liquid soap dispenser is available at the handsink; Correct within a week. In the meanwhile, continue using the liquid soap in the portable dispenser.

Comments

Permit to operate was posted.
Handsinks were supplied with liquid soap, hot and cold running water, and paper towels.
Walk-in-cooler and other display coolers were at or below 4 degrees C and equipped with thermometers.
Display freezer was at or below -18 degrees C.
Walk-in-freezer was not in use, it was empty of food, and it was turned off.
Refrigeration units, knives, magnetic knives strip, prep. tables, and band saw appeared to be in a clean condition.
Hot-holding was not being conducted and rotisserie oven was turned off at the time of inspection.
Person in Charge on shift stated that the they have not served cooked chicken legs for approximately two months now.
Plexi-glass barrier was installed at the counter near the hot-holding unit.
100 ppm chlorine sanitizer was available in the spray bottle.
3-compartment sink was operational and had appropriate flow between soiled to clean food contact surfaces (meat trays, preparation utensils etc.).
Invoices were available for the meat and food products on-site.

COVID-19 safety protocols: Maximum occupancy limit sign and a sign requiring mask use was posted at the front entrance door. Physical distancing stickers were posted on the floor near the front counter service area. Single-use masks were available on-site for customers who are unable to bring in their own masks. Hand sanitizer supplies were available. Staff were observed wearing masks on shift. Plexi-glass barrier was in place at the cash register.

Concern: A COVID-19 safety plan was not available on-site. In accordance with the Provincial Health Officer's Order and WorkSafe B.C., ensure a COVID-19 safety plan is posted on-site. Refer to the WorkSafe B.C. website for templates of the COVID-19 safety plan.
