Introduction

Routine Inspection Introduction
An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care and Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulations (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DLSP). Evidence for this report was based on the licensing officer’s observations, review of the facility records, and information provided by the facility staff at the time of inspection.
The following areas were reviewed:

· Nutrition and Food Services

· Records and Reporting
As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided. The Risk Assessment includes non-compliance identified during the routine inspection, and a 3 year ‘historical’ review of the facility’s compliance and operation.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): The facility is equipped with two washrooms. One washroom is used for the younger children. Observed diaper creams stored on an open shelf at children's height. The licensee removed these products from the shelf and placed them in a secure location.
Observed unsecured stationary stair climber. Reviewed risk of injury to children if put in motion. This piece of equipped was secured with a strap during the inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Licensee addressed during inspection.

PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11230 - CCLR s.47 - A licensee must ensure that any heated water accessible to children is heated to no more than 49° Celsius.
Observation: The water temperature in one of the children's washrooms was 55.3 degrees presenting the possibility of injury to children.
Corrective Action(s): Ensure water temperature is no greater than 49 degrees

Comments

While no children were in care today the licensee invited us to complete an inspection of the facility. Today's inspection was completed by two licensing officers for training purposes. Thank you for being so accommodating.
The following topics were discussed:
-Bill 5 (resource provided)
-Active supervision (resource provided)
-Lead in the water (resource provided)
-The importance of reviewing the first aid supplies regularly. Topical solutions were observed; use of soap and water recommended to cleanse minor wounds.
