Introduction

An unscheduled routine inspection was conducted to assess compliance with the Community Care & Assisted Living Act (CCALA), the Child Care Licensing Regulation (CCLR) and the relevant Director of Licensing Standards of Practice (DOLSP). All areas of the facility were inspected for compliance.

Observed Violations
PHYSICAL FACILITY, EQUIPMENT AND FURNISHINGS: 11010 - CCLR s.13(1) - A licensee must ensure that a healthy and safe environment is provided at all times while children are under the supervision of employees.
Observation (CORRECTED DURING INSPECTION): During inspection licensing observed laptop cord was accessible to children in the infant and toddler program. Staff corrected this during inspection.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure laptop cords are not within children's reach at all times.

STAFFING: 12200 - CCLR s.22(2)(c) - A licensee must ensure that each employee (c) practices implementing the emergency plan at least once each year.
Observation: Emergency evacuation drill has not been practiced in last 12 months.
Corrective Action(s): Please ensure that emergency evacuation drill is practiced at least once a year with all staff and children present and is documented for licensing review..

Comments

At the inspection dated March 19, 2024 there were nineteen children, manager,four staff and three practicum students present. At this inspection the above noted contraventions were identified. Licensing conducted a walk-through of the entire facility. The Manager will take action to bring the facility into compliance and provide a written response to the Licensing Officer by March 22, 2024 stating how the identified contraventions will be addressed to ensure year-round compliance. The Licensing Officer will review the response. As part of this Routine Inspection a Facility Risk Assessment Tool is completed and a copy is provided.

Spring cleaning of outdoor toys
CCLR 56(1)(f)- Regular recording of all minor incidents,illnesses & unexpected events in the minor Incident log book

Fire Earthquake drill log sample
The inspection report was written on-site and details were reviewed with the Manager prior to writing the report. A copy of the follow up to routine inspection report and risk assessment is provided to the manager at this inspection.
